Why You Should Take Yourself on a Date + Outfit Ideas

Whether you are a mother, childless, single, or married, I’m here to tell you that you need a break away from it all every once in a while.  I know I do.  We have so many responsibilities as adults and it can be overwhelming.  So, to combat that overwhelming feeling, I feel it’s necessary to take a break. And instead of waiting around for others (boyfriends, husbands, girlfriends, etc.), start taking yourself on a few solo dates.  I think it’s important to take yourself out every once in a while! There are so many things you may want to do, places you may want to visit, food you may want to try and concerts you want to go to. Don’t let the fact that others aren’t interested in doing these things stop you from doing all of that!

I’ve only gone on a few solo dates in the last few years.  One of them was in 2014 (lol), I had been studying for a payroll certification for months, and I’d finally taken the exam and passed it!  So, I decided that I wanted to celebrate by taking a looooonnng nap (hadn’t gotten any sleep while studying for that exam) and I also wanted to see one of the biggest movies that was out at that moment, “Gone Girl”.  Everyone else had either already seen it, or they just weren’t available to go.  I almost decided not to go, but at the last minute I changed my mind and decided to go by myself.  I purchased my ticket and went to one of those movie theaters that had the nice leather recliner seats.  Y’all, it was so relaxing.  I didn’t want to leave when the movie ended.  To be honest, I wasn’t at all embarrassed that I was alone.  It was one of the best movie experiences that I’ve ever had, for sure!  By the way, the movie was great!

I’ve also gone to a lounge/restaurant by myself as well.  That experience was different because I actually ended up being hit on a few times while I was there.  It was still a nice experience though.  The music was great and the food was good.

As a mom, I haven’t taken myself on any official dates yet, however, I do make sure to have my alone time.  One thing that I would love to do alone is take a vacation.  Now, that would be different.

My point is that you can enjoy yourself without having a whole crew with you.  And it’s important to have some alone time to recharge and just do things that YOU enjoy without depending on others.  When you take yourself on a date, you’re on your own schedule and you don’t have to wait until someone else is available to go with you.

If you’re going on a solo date or a date with your boo, you still have to look good right? So, below I’ve put together a few date night looks that will surely have you looking fly no matter where you’re going!
