5 Goals for 2017 and Beyond
A tip that I received from Mattieologie.com is that it’s a good idea to have a theme for the year; a subject or message that remains constant in the back of your mind throughout the year. I decided that my theme for this year is Growth and Consistency.
A quote that has always been memorable for me is “Change is inevitable. Growth is a choice.” As long as we’re living, things will change. But it’s how we adapt to those changes that determine our growth. I want to grow and learn from every change that happens in my life. I never want to remain stagnant. And in order to achieve significant growth in any part of my life, being consistent is essential.
Ladies it’s so important to have goals. They give you something to look forward to; a purpose. If I didn’t have goals, I would literally have nothing to do and I would achieve absolutely nothing other than stagnation. With that being said, I’ve listed some areas in which I would like to grow this year and beyond. Check them out below.
1st Goal-Pay off debt and save
I don’t want to give a lengthy story on how I ended up where I am now (in debt) but I will tell you that it came from wanting more than I could afford to have at certain moments. This has been a habit that I have had a hard time breaking. Please pray for me on this one because I know that the self-control and consistency that it takes to get out of debt will make this the hardest goal of mine to accomplish.
2nd Goal-Spend more time helping others
I’m trying to find ways to give back because I do realize how blessed I am. One volunteer opportunity that I’m really excited about is the Dress for Success program. Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
I’m excited about this opportunity because it involves multiple things that are important to me: fashion, women empowerment, and helping those in need. I will have orientation for the Dress for Success program on January 11, 2016 and hopefully get started soon after. I can’t wait!
Also, I plan to volunteer at least once a month for a variety of other programs such as Meals on Wheels, Books for Africa, etc.
3rd Goal-Blog more consistently
I really enjoy blogging. It is literally my only outlet to create and express myself right now. Being able to come up with content and figure out ways to make it interesting while also figuring out layouts and fonts and images to use makes me feel like a boss. And to see my ideas come to fruition is the best feeling ever.
On the other hand, it is a lot of work and its very time consuming so I want to do a better job of managing my time so that I can blog more consistently. I want to build my following and I know that I can’t do that if I’m not giving you quality material on a regular basis.
4th Goal-Practice healthier habits toward my body, mind, and spirit
As I’ve gotten older, I have come to realize that what I put into my body will directly affect my health either now or later. So I want to be mindful of all that goes into my body, mind, and spirit. I don’t want to take in anything that will be harmful to my overall well-being. This is going to be a long journey as well because I love a lot of things that are really unhealthy; especially certain foods. There will be a lot more meditation and prayer going on in my heart and mind as well. And I just want to be more positive. I am confident that I can do just that.
5th Goal-Increase consistency and organization
Another bad habit that has been hard for me to break is inconsistency. I have a tendency to start things and not finish them. I mean, I can be so excited about a particular subject, go and sign up for classes and everything, and get all deep into it. Then, when the real work begins, I’m no longer interested. It’s sad actually.
So with the new goals that I am setting this year, I will be consistent with them. Even if I fall off the boat for a second, I will get back on and continue trying. No giving up over here.
On top of that, I have to work on my organization. I’m going to create to-do lists, set reminders, and focus on one thing at a time. And I will actually utilize all of these planners and notebooks that I own too.
Follow Up
Another goal of mine is to keep you all updated on all of my goals mentioned above. This is partly because, in the past, I have struggled with staying consistent with my goals. So in an effort to really hold myself accountable for my goals, I’m making them known to the world (or to whoever is reading this blog). So I will be giving you weekly updates on how I’m doing with everything.
So, tell me. What are some your goals for the New Year and beyond? I would love to hear about them in the comments section below.
Speak to you soon,
Daneisha
